... at the worst of all possible times... writing a master thesis isn't as fun as I expected it to be.
I really need the sun and spring to come, this snowy and cold winter has to end soon! It's already march! So come on!!!
The topic of the thesis isn't perfect yet, but it deals with Obama, his campaign and how he used elements of the American national identity in it. Sounds a little vague? Yes, that's right, but I hope it's getting clearer the next few weeks.
Sometimes I feel a little bit weird, writing so much about a country, its people and politics, even though I haven't been there yet. But hey, no one cares anyway about this piece of paper... so why bother...

this time I didn't even make it in December...
okay, here is a short update:
I'm in the final stage of my studies here in Bonn. The topic of my thesis is American national identity and Obama's campaign 2008. I'm not sure if that's going to work out but hey... if not, nobody cares. As long as I have enough literature and footnotes everything will be alright...
And I've some other stuff to do. I'm applying to film school (in Munich). That's quite a difficult task but I hope it's going to work out... would be great!!
Who needs "real work life" anyway..?
No, that's not really the reason why I'm doing that. It is because I simply fell in love with filmmaking. Especially documentaries. Okay, I've never done it but I'm sure I'll love it. At least I love making trailers of documentaries.

Almost one year ago I stated I was still alive... Well, here I am again, stating the same.
When I left Copenhagen in June, my eyes were a little bit wet. It was a great time there and I got the chance to meet wonderful new people who I can call friends now. That might sound a little bit sentimental and pathetic, but it's true.

But now it's Bonn-time again. And that's surprisingly good news! I've got my boyfriend back, I've got a course that I wanted and I've got a new exciting job (yeah, I'm in the TV-business!!).

So everything turns out to work great for me at the moment. Hope it's going to last a little while...

And finally: Happy christmas, happy new year and happy life everyone!

Copenhagen is awesome though. If you ever have the chance to get there - go for it! I think it's probably the most beautiful city I have ever seen. As a whole. And very exciting.
The weather is not always rainy, at the moment there are just a few clouds and it's not even that cold. Actually it's pretty warm... climate change, I guess...

I have to finish a term paper til 11th of January and that sucks. Would rather go out and take my brandnew Canon 400D with me...

But the storm "Kyrill" was interesting nevertheless. And I was very lucky because I caught one of the last train that ran from Cologne to Bonn.
A friend of my flatmate had to sleep at our place because he wasn't so lucky. He couldn't get back home to Koblenz.

Okay, my nerve of one tooth was inflamed, that's why I was in such pain. Just to update you.
I'm quite busy at the moment, have to learn for important exams at the beginning of February. Love reading so many books... hm, at least most of them are somehow interesting. Domestic policies, Germany's foreign affairs, same for the US and theoretical and philosophical stuff.

I'm back again, but in pain. Somehow I managed to ignore a stiff neck for weeks, so now everything is inflamed and my whole left part of my face is aching. I coudln't even sleep anymore.
So yesterday I went to see a doc. He was... hm. Strange. A mid-fifty I'd say (but I'm not very good when it comes to guess someones age) and he wore a really really tight black shirt, silver hair and tanned. But he did awesome things with my neck and my back and finally gave me five syringes. I hope it's getting better now.

Sunday my niece was baptised. She was sooo cute and sweet! Some pics to come...

So far I've managed to develope a topic: Was the era of Nixon a turning point between the press and its relationship to the president?
Now ten to 15 pages need to be filled. Yawn.

Ich meine, hey, man braucht sich nur mal die letzten paar Monate anzusehen.
Oder die letzten paar Minuten:
Landis ist positiv auf Testosteron getestet worden.
Bei der Etappe, wo er - einen Tag nach seinem Einbruch - allen auf einmal einfach so knapp 10 Minuten Zeit abgenommen hatte.
Wo sind wir denn hier? Wie dumm kann man sein? Oder vielleicht besser, wie dreist? Ich meine, gerade nach dem Ullrich, Basso und co. suspendiert wurden, MUSS man doch einfach auch als Profisportler einfach mal sein Hirn anschalten und gewarnt sein. Was ein Depp!
Dann die Geschichte mit dem italienischen Skandal um manipulierte Spiele in der Serie A, der ersten Fußballliga in Italien.
Erster Urteilsspruch: Hart aber gerecht. Wer manipuliert hat auch krasse Strafen verdient. Nur der AC Mailand, der ja zufälligerweise in Besitz vom Ex-Diktator... ääähhhh... Ex-Regierungschef Berlusconi ist, wurde schon milder bestraft. Nach der Berufung jetzt sieht's so aus, dass es quasi nur noch Alibistrafen sind. Man könnte den Eindruck gewinnen, dass sich Manipulation direkt lohnt. Wenn man erwischt wird, hat man ja eh fast nichts zu befürchten. Es sei denn, man ist offen und ehrlich, wie Juventus Turin. Dann wird man am Härstesten bestraft. Abseits vom Sport kann man auch erstaunliches feststellen.
Stichwort Klima. Jeder weiß, dass es mit der Erde zu Ende geht, wenn alles so weiterläuft wie es momentan der Fall ist. Aber scheinbar bemüht sich so gut wie keiner der Politiker, sich wirklich darum zu kümmern. Vermutlich, weil sie bei dem eventuellen Ende bzw. der Zunahme von schlimmen Katastrophen schon hoffen, sicher unter der Erde begraben zu sein. Und es ihnen von daher schlicht und einfach egal ist. Würde ja nur die Lobby-Gruppen verärgern. Und das wollen wir ja schließlich nicht.
Beim Blick Richtung Nahen Osten kommt einem ebenfalls das Grauen. Sicher gibt es keine Ultimativlösung für dieses Problem. Aber sich einfach so total der Verantwortung entziehen, wie es die USA momentan machen (was ihre Position gegenüber Israel angeht, man schaue sich das Veto auf der Nahost Konferenz in Rom an) ist sicherlich nicht der richtige Weg einer Supermacht mit Einfluss. Besonders, wenn es sich um die wohl momentan einzige Supermacht der Welt handelt.

Manchmal kann man einfach nur den Kopf schütteln...

... mal wieder ein Eintrag auf Deutsch. Zur Fußball WM, weil die interessiert meine Freunde aus dem Bushland ja sowieso eher nicht so. Und, weil es um einen Kommentator geht, der mich die ganze WM lang aufgeregt hat und wegen dem ich jetzt gezwungen bin, sogar Peter Neururer zuzustimmen (was als Hannover 96 Fan ja dieser Tage einen hohen Seltenheitsgrad hat).
Dieser sagte nämlich schon nach der ersten WM Woche in seiner Kolumne in der ZEIT, dass der ARD-Kommentator Reinhold Beckmann das bisher größte und einzige Ärgernis bei der WM sei.
Und recht hat er.
Rhetorische Leckerbissen wurden über die ganze WM verteilt.
Wirklich bewusst habe ich zwei von Beckmann kommentierte Spiele erlebt:
Deutschland - Argentinien
und
Frankreich - Italien.
Erinnerungs (un?-)würdige Bemerkungen:
- die Argentinier wurden oft über den grünen Klee gelobt, während unsere Jungs sich andauernd irgendwelcher zumeist unbegründeter Kritik ausgesetzt sehen mussten.
- fast schon legendär: sein Versprecher nach der Verlängerung, dass doch nun die Verlängerung käme...

- ich weiß nicht wie oft genau, jedenfalls hat er sowas von unerhört oft die Einwechslung Trezeguets gefordert, dass man als Zuschauer schlussendlich verzweifelt vorm Fernseher saß und den guten Domenech geradezu angefehlt hat, Trezeguet endlich einzuwechseln, damit diese Kommentare aufhören!
- "Henry. Wirkt nach wie vor frischer." (frischer als was?)
- Torwart Buffon faustet einen Ball aus dem Sechzehner. "Das hat er gelernt, das kann er. Seine Mutter war schließlich italienische Meisterin... Im Kugelstoßen." [OHNE KOMMENTAR...]
- "Allmählich bewahrheitet sich, was Henry nach dem 0:0 gegen die Schweiz gesagt hat." Danach folgt Stille. Wir werden nie erfahren, was Henry nach dem Remis gegen die Schweiz gesagt hat. Das scheint Beckmann wohl als selbstredend vorauszusetzen.

Dies waren nun die Sachen, die mir spontan eingefallen sind. Ich weiß wohl, dass ich mich während der Spiele über erheblich mehr aufgeregt habe.

Wenn man freundlich ist könnte man sagen, dass sich der Kommentator dem Niveau des Endspiels angepasst hat.

Sometimes I wonder if some people are unable to think when they're talking.
A few days ago I sat in a train. I like sitting in trains watching people. Then a couple came and sat down. She was really really ugly and fat. He was very thin. I could hear them talking about the match Germany lost against Italy.

She: But that was so unfair!
He: Hmpf. *nipping some beer*
She: That can't be true!
He: Hmmmpfrrrrk. *still nipping beer*
She: But I betted on Germany.
He: Hffff. *again nipping beer*
She: So it's impossible they lost!
He: Yeaaass... Hmf.
She: That's so unfair!
He: Grmof. *nipping some beer*
- At this point I realized that both are obviously really really stupid. Not only drunk but really stupid. Especially the guy who was unable to say a complete word. -
She: But I've to go to France tomorrow!
He: Hmpf?
She: Ah, that's SO unfair.
He: Hmrrrpft!
She: Why me? I don't like France.
He: Hrrmmf!
She: And I HATE THESE MOTHERFUCKING ITALIANS!
He: *decides to concentrate on his beer*

Today I gave a lecture about the U.S. Supreme Court and the court system in general. Finally. Now I know almost everything, especially about Marbury v. Madison. It took some time till I eventually figured out everything.

Totally exhausted, but happy...

Costa Rica ... twoooo...

We went to see it at the Heumarkt in Cologne. I was late and my guys were already inside (the place was surroundet by high fences) and there were four entrances where your bag got checked (you weren't allowed to take own food oder drinks inside). When I came the stupid security-guys didn't allow anymore people to get in. So I was outside with 100 people (at least!) and my guys inside. There was no chance getting in, even though people were leaving the security-guys were stupid and had fun telling people off and still didn't allow at least a few to get in.
So I was totally annoyed and walked around the fences, searching for a way to get in. I wasn't the only one trying and nobody succeeded. Then I had enough and climbed (in a quiet corner, where I couldn't see any security) over the fence. I hurt myself, I ruined my trousers... but: I was INSIDE! Yeah!
It still took some time to find my guys but I finally found them at the best ever moment: When Germany scored 1:0.

Yeah, go Germany go!

Just watched "Report Mainz", shown in our good old first television program. Actually I've never seen it before, I just watched it because Germany's top late night talker Harald Schmidt presented the jubilee show (40 years). I liked Schmidt but I didn't like the show. Didn't know it is so much right-wing. One report about how much left-wing extremisn is expanding in Germany (okay, in fairness: they also did a report about right-wing propaganda because of the Wolrd Cup). And another satire one about our Social Party and how they take away the money of everyone these days. They forgot to tell that not only the Social Party is governing Germany now... the Christian Paty is also involved. Yay, that's what I call objective reporting.

Tomorrow is sunday. Hope it's really going to be a sunny day because... Alex and his flatmates will throw a party. A BBQ party. With 100 people.
But that's enough, don't want to bother you with all my weather-ish things again.

Yesterday I went to a small theatre with some friends to see "Embers" (that's what the story is called in English, in German it's "Die Glut") of Sándor Márai. It was a very small theatre and because we were so late buying our ticktes we had to sit "first class": in the front row. Which wasn't very popular by most of us because "I can't sleep sitting in the front row. That's gonna be embarrassing!". Because it was a small theatre, we were really close to the stage. It felt a bit like we were participating in the play. But it was a really good one with a brilliant actor playing the lead. This guy was actually in a monologue, for a whole two hours! Not that easy...

Happy because they went to a brilliant concert: Less than Jake & Dropkick Murphys.
Very, very, very cool thing. Really good music. Especially Less than Jake, even though they weren't the actual headliner.

Just one hour ago I was sitting in a park with tasty ice cream in my hand, talking to some friends and having fun.
Now I'm at home and it's almost raining. And I have to do my daily shopping. Fun, fun, fun.
Reminds me about what friends told me about their last weekend, especially saturday.
Just to remind you, I was in Paderborn: It was raining and so cold I had to wear my woolly hat.
My friends stayed in Bonn: It was sunny and they had lots of fun barbecueing in t-shirts.

Furthermore I just came back from Paderborn, where I visited my old friend Meike. It was quite a funny and eventful weekend, with a usual annoying journey. The Deutsche Bahn is really crap. Not one of my six trains arrived in time. But hey, at least one advantage: They were all late so I could catch them all and didn't have to wait at some exciting stations like Hamm. Hamm is just as funny as it sounds.
Paderborn isn't very exciting aswell, but the people that surrounded me were. Had a lot's of fun and didn't get enough sleep. But hey, I don't complain.
Now I've "some" stuff to read for politics tomorrow and tuesday. Also not very exciting...
